STEINPILZ & SALBEI
BRAND IDENTITY
Steinpilz & Salbei is a small-scale Black Forest mushroom farm and foraged goods business, combining artisan cultivation with traditional herbalism. Based in southwestern Germany, they supply farmers' markets and local restaurants with cultivated steinpilz (porcini) and wildcrafted forest botanicals, honoring forest-to-table traditions and seasonal eating.
THE OBJECTIVE
Create a brand identity that captures the earthy authenticity of Black Forest foraging culture while establishing trust and craftsmanship. The visual system needed to work beautifully as simple, reproducible applications—particularly as stamps on kraft paper packaging—and appeal to home cooks and chefs who value honest, artisan ingredients with deep regional roots.
THE RESULT
A grounded, rustic identity anchored by hand-drawn mushroom and herb illustrations with vintage German apothecary influence. The forest floor color palette of deep brown, moss green, and warm cream reinforces the connection to woodland origins, while clean typography ensures legibility at small scales. The brand system includes product labels for dried mushrooms and herbs with Latin names, rubber stamp designs for market packaging, and a cohesive visual language that feels both timeless and unmistakably Black Forest.
